DISCLAIMER

Actors' Equity Association was founded in 1913, and is the U.S. labor union that represents more than 51,000 professional Actors and Stage Managers. Equity fosters the art of live theatre as an essential component of society and advances the careers of its members by negotiating wages, improving working conditions and providing a wide range of benefits, including health and pension plans. Actors' Equity is a member of the AFL-CIO and is affiliated with FIA, an international organization of performing arts unions.

Any theatre employing, in any way, any members of this Union must operate within strict guidelines. One of these guidelines is that "the taking of photographs or use of any recording devices is strictly forbidden, and is AGAINST THE LAW." This applies to theaters as well as to the audiences. Equity made the concession that a theatre may shoot photos for the purpose of publicizing the show, but for that purpose only.

This makes it pretty tough for designers; although the set, lighting and costumes can be photographed without actors. For a director, it makes it nearly impossible. So what follows are, for the most part, those photos taken to publicize each show. Any sort of video of a performance is absolutely verboten.

All the photos used on this website are used with permission and the photographers credited. You will run across a bootleg video here and there that were either shared or discovered on the internet.

It is difficult for a stage director to legally obtain video samples of their work, but please enjoy the captured moments herein humbly presented for your pleasure.
